Gerard Caussé, Viola

A stand-out viola player worldwide, alongside his solo career in recitals and with the biggest conductors and best groups, Gérard Caussé has developed a chamber music field that is unanimously renowned for the musical generosity of the man who, like Mozart, sees himself as a "bridge" between the low and high voices of the string quartet!

The biggest names want to work with him such as Gidon Kremer (The Seven Last Words of Christ by Haydn), Dmitry Sitkovetsky (international creation of Sitkovetksy's transcription of Bach's Goldberg Variations), Mischa Maisky, Michel Portal, Paul Meyer, François-René Duchâble, Renaud Capuçon, Franck Braley, Nicholas Angelich and more. Gérard Caussé's unique style and aura have influenced several generations of musicians who have become, like him, viola players by vocation. !

Using an instrument with an intimate voice and subtle repertoire that isn't naturally inclined to get a lot of attention, he has managed to make this voice unique and stand out from the crowd as well as inspire the great composers of his time: Henri Dutilleux, Philippe Hersant, Michaël Lévinas, Pascal Dusapin, Hugues Dufour, Betsy Jolas, Wolfgang Rihm, Gérard Pesson and more!
