Jean-François Dion, Trumpet
Gironde-born Jean-François Dion began studying the cornet and trumpet at the Bordeaux Conservatory where he got his gold medals. He finished his training at the Paris Conservatory in Ludovic Vaillant's class and won first prize for both the cornet and trumpet. He then began the third year in Pierre Perlot and Jacques Lancelot's class. Next came a silver medal at the first International Musical Performance Concert in Toulon and the launch of his solo career where he played with various ensembles including the Paul Kuentz, Jean-François Paillard, London and Munich Chamber Orchestras.
He is passionate about teaching brass and has founded several groups including the Aquitaine Brass Band, Burdigala-Brass and was involved in launching the New Music Ensemble in Bordeaux. Jean-François Dion has been the trumpet soloist at the Bordeaux Aquitaine National Orchestra since 1974 and teaches trumpet at the Bordeaux Conservatory. Notably he performed the Concerto for Trumpet and Bassoon by Hindemith conducted by Hiroyuki Iwaki in May 2000 in Bordeaux. Jean-François Dion is a Bordeaux Aquitaine National Orchestra musician."
