Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia: Telemann / Haydn / Grieg Evening

The Royal Wallonia Chamber Orchestra take up residence in Colmar for a series of three one-off concerts in spring.

On Tuesday April 9th they bring us a tribute to the Age of Enlightenment's classicism with work by Haydn (who invented the concerto for cello genre – performed by the young Victor Julien-Leferrière), Telemann (the too rarely played Concerto for Viola with our strings star, Gérard Caussé) and Grieg, the Scandinavian composer who payed homage to past great masters in his Holberg Suite, rightly subtitled "in olden style" – Holberg was one of the greatest dramatists!

We should mention that the pianist Frank Braley, the Wallonia Orchestra's artistic director since 2013, will swap his piano for the dreamy harpsichord to perform these pieces!

Program

GF. TELEMANN: Opening for strings and basso continuo in G major TWV 55:G10 "Burlesque de Quixote"
J. HAYDN: Cello Concerto
GF. TELEMANN: Concerto for viola and orchestra in G major, TWV 51: G9
E. GRIEG: Holberg Suite "in the old style" op.40
